A passenger identified as Comfort Emmanson allegedly assaulted cabin crew members aboard an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos on 10 August 2025, five days after a separate confrontation involving musician KWAM1 had disrupted a ValueJet departure in Abuja. Ibom Air said the incident began shortly before take-off, when the passenger refused to comply with standard safety procedures requiring her to switch off her mobile phone, and escalated into a physical altercation with crew members.
An Industry-Wide Response
The airline restricted Emmanson from future travel on its own services, while the Airline Operators of Nigeria, representing carriers across the industry, placed her on a lifetime no-fly list, describing the episode as one of the most severe cases of unruly passenger conduct recorded that year. Emmanson was subsequently charged and remanded at the Kirikiri correctional facility, though she was later released and the lifetime ban was lifted.
The incident added to a string of passenger misconduct cases that drew regulatory and industry sanctions through 2025, including the KWAM1-ValueJet confrontation in Abuja and a further altercation between two social media personalities aboard a United Nigeria flight weeks later, prompting the NCAA to tighten in-flight conduct rules, including a directive requiring mobile phones to be switched off during take-off and landing.
