The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority sanctioned Kenya Airways on 7 May 2025 for violating consumer protection regulations, issuing the airline a seven-day ultimatum to pay refunds and compensate affected passengers. The action followed a video posted the previous February by Tunde Moshood, special adviser to the aviation minister, showing a confrontation between Kenya Airways staff and Nigerian passenger Gloria Omisore at a transfer desk, in which Omisore described what she said was unfair treatment of Nigerian travellers by the airline.

Payment Confirmed Months Later

The NCAA said the footage, which circulated widely on social media, prompted it to investigate and ultimately penalise the airline under the consumer protection rules set out in Part 19 of its regulations. By September 2025, the authority confirmed that Kenya Airways had paid the sanction fee covering both the Omisore incident and other consumer protection breaches, closing out one of several enforcement actions the regulator brought against foreign carriers operating in Nigeria that year.

The case formed part of a wider pattern of NCAA sanctions against international airlines through 2025, alongside penalties later imposed on Qatar Airways and compliance notices issued to Royal Air Maroc and Saudia, as the regulator pushed foreign carriers to meet the same passenger protection standards expected of domestic operators.
