Air Peace has commenced direct scheduled flights between Lagos and Kinshasa, marking the airline's first route into Central Africa and extending its regional network beyond the West African routes it has built up over the past two years to Douala, Libreville, Bamako, and Conakry.

The new service will operate several times weekly using the airline's Boeing 737 narrowbody fleet, connecting Nigeria's commercial capital directly with the Democratic Republic of Congo's capital for the first time on a Nigerian-registered carrier. Previously, passengers travelling between the two cities typically routed through Addis Ababa, Nairobi, or European hubs.

A Strategic Central African Foothold

Industry analysts say the Kinshasa route positions Air Peace to capture growing business and trade traffic between Nigeria and the DRC, two of Africa's largest economies by population, at a time when direct air links between West and Central Africa remain thin relative to demand. The route also builds toward the airline's stated ambition of positioning Lagos as a connecting hub for intra-African travel under the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) framework.

An Air Peace spokesperson said the carrier had observed sustained demand from traders, diplomatic missions, and the Congolese diaspora in Nigeria, alongside interest from Nigerian businesses seeking easier access to Central African markets. "Kinshasa represents an important gateway into Central Africa for us, and we expect this route to develop steadily as awareness grows," the airline said in a statement.

Regulatory and Commercial Context

The launch follows the airline's broader African expansion strategy, which has accelerated over the past year alongside continental efforts to implement SAATM and reduce restrictions on intra-African air travel. Air Peace has previously cited the Lomé Declaration and related bilateral air services agreements as factors easing its ability to add new African routes.

The airline said ticket sales for the Lagos–Kinshasa route are already open through its website, mobile app, and accredited travel agencies, with further frequency increases possible depending on demand in the first months of operation.
