Kenya Airways and Air Peace have signed a codeshare agreement covering the Lagos–Nairobi route, allowing each carrier to place its flight code on the other's operated services and offer passengers through-connections onto their respective wider networks.
Under the agreement, Air Peace passengers travelling to Nairobi will gain access to Kenya Airways' onward connections across East and Southern Africa, while Kenya Airways passengers will be able to connect onto Air Peace's expanding West African network via Lagos, including recently launched routes into the Caribbean.
Strengthening Africa's Air Links
The two carriers said the agreement is aimed at addressing the historically limited direct air connectivity between West and East Africa, where passengers have often had to route through Europe or the Middle East to connect between the two regions. "This partnership reflects a shared commitment to making intra-African travel simpler and more accessible," Air Peace said in a statement announcing the agreement.
Kenya Airways said the codeshare builds on the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) framework, which both Nigeria and Kenya have committed to implementing, and reflects a wider trend of African carriers pursuing commercial partnerships in place of, or alongside, full alliance membership.
Next Steps
The codeshare is expected to take effect from the carriers' next scheduling cycle, subject to regulatory approval from the NCAA and Kenya's Civil Aviation Authority. Both airlines said they are open to expanding the partnership to additional routes depending on how demand develops on the initial Lagos–Nairobi codeshare.
