Nigeria and Rwanda signed a bilateral air services agreement on 20 July 2017, establishing the legal framework for direct scheduled flights between the two countries for the first time.
Part of a Wider Connectivity Push
The agreement set out designated-carrier and frequency terms for both sides and was described by Nigerian officials as part of a broader effort to expand direct intra-African air links, reducing reliance on Gulf and European hubs for regional travel.
No Immediate Route Launch
Neither side named a launch date for new services at the time of signing, with officials saying commercial carriers on both sides would decide route viability once the framework was formally ratified.
