The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) commissioned a new air traffic control tower at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport on 5 January 2018, replacing equipment that had been in service since before the airport's international terminal was expanded.
Wider Sightlines, Newer Equipment
The new tower gave controllers an unobstructed view across the full apron and runway, and was fitted with updated radar displays and communications equipment intended to support the airport's growing passenger and cargo traffic.
Timed Ahead of Hajj Season
NAMA said the upgrade was completed ahead of the airport's busiest period, when it handles a large share of Nigeria's outbound Hajj pilgrim charter flights alongside its regular scheduled traffic.
