A Nigerian Air Force Dornier DO228-212 aircraft, registration NAF030, crashed into a house in the Ribadu Cantonment area of Kaduna on the morning of 29 August 2015, shortly after taking off from Kaduna Military Airfield on a flight to Abuja.
According to accident records, the aircraft went out of control while still climbing and struck the residential building, bursting into flames on impact. All seven occupants, two pilots, two engineers and three passengers, were killed in the crash.
An Aircraft With a Military and Utility Role
The Dornier DO228 is a light twin-turboprop used by the Nigerian Air Force for personnel transport and utility duties. The loss adds to a series of military aviation incidents in Nigeria over the past decade, renewing scrutiny of ageing fleets and maintenance practices within the armed forces' air wings, which operate largely outside the civil oversight regime administered by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.

Because the crash occurred over a populated cantonment area rather than open ground, it also raised concerns among residents about the risks posed by military flight operations departing close to residential neighbourhoods. The incident occurred in the same year Nigeria's civil aviation regulator was separately working to retain the country's FAA Category One safety status, underlining the contrast between improving oversight of commercial carriers and continued risk in military aviation operations.
