The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) commissioned new fire and rescue vehicles across six domestic airports on 9 November 2016, replacing equipment that had fallen below ICAO-recommended response-time standards.
Responding to Audit Findings
The affected airports had previously been flagged in safety audits over ageing rescue and firefighting vehicles, some of which had exceeded their manufacturer-recommended service life.
Meeting International Benchmarks
FAAN said the new vehicles brought the six airports into closer alignment with international emergency-response benchmarks, with further replacements planned for remaining airports still using older equipment.
