The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) introduced automated passenger screening lanes at Murtala Muhammed International Airport on 15 October 2019, part of an effort to ease congestion at the terminal's security checkpoints.
Cutting Queue Times
The new lanes used automated tray-return conveyor systems that allowed several passengers to load trays simultaneously, a change FAAN said had already shown measurable improvements in throughput during the airport's peak morning departure period.
A Phased Rollout
FAAN said it planned to expand the automated lanes to other high-traffic terminals depending on how the Lagos rollout performed over its first months of operation.
