FAAN Begins Concession Talks for Four Major Airports

The talks were aimed at bringing in private capital and operational expertise to Nigeria's busiest airports, with government retaining ownership of the underlying infrastructure under the proposed model.

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) opened formal concession talks on 10 February 2020 covering its four busiest airports, in Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt, as part of a push to bring in private investment for terminal operations.

Government Retains Ownership

Under the proposed model, government would retain ownership of the underlying airport infrastructure while private concessionaires took over day-to-day terminal management, a structure FAAN said mirrored concession arrangements used at several other African airports.

Early-Stage Discussions

Officials described the talks as an early-stage process, with prequalification and bidding stages still to follow before any concession agreements could be finalised.
