Arik Air resumed its Lagos-London Heathrow service on 15 August 2017, restoring one of its flagship international routes several months after the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) took over the airline's management.

Working Through a Difficult Year

The AMCON-appointed management had spent much of the year addressing a backlog of maintenance requirements and outstanding debts that had periodically disrupted the airline's long-haul schedule, including the Heathrow route.

A Test of the New Management

Analysts said the route's restoration was an early test of whether the receivership arrangement could stabilise Arik's international operations, which had long been a significant part of the carrier's revenue base.
