Air Peace commenced scheduled commercial flights between Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and Sharjah International Airport in the United Arab Emirates in the first week of July 2019, its first long-haul international route after building a regional network across West and Central Africa. The service was operated with a Boeing 777, the largest aircraft type in the carrier's fleet, and was positioned by the airline as an alternative for Nigerian passengers and traders travelling to the Gulf who had previously relied solely on foreign carriers or indirect routings.
A Platform for Further Expansion
Airline officials said the Sharjah route was intended as a foundation for further long-haul growth, with the carrier continuing to add Boeing 737 MAX aircraft to its order book to standardise its narrow-body fleet alongside its wide-body operations. The launch came as Air Peace, founded in 2014, consolidated its position as Nigeria's largest airline by fleet size, having already extended its domestic and regional network to cover the bulk of Nigeria's major cities as well as destinations across West Africa.
