Ibom Air has introduced two new routes connecting Nigeria and Ghana, expanding regional connectivity from 28 June 2026. The airline launched a non-stop service between Uyo and Accra alongside a one-stop Abuja-Accra route, building on the recent commencement of international operations at Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo.
Victor Attah International Airport began handling international flights in April 2026, giving Akwa Ibom State a direct international gateway for the first time and supporting its emergence as a regional hub outside the traditional Lagos-Abuja axis. The new non-stop Uyo-Accra service offers travellers in southern Nigeria a direct international connection without routing through larger hubs, reducing journey times for tourism, business and family travel.
A Second Option on the Nigeria-Ghana Corridor
The Abuja-Accra route adds a second Nigerian carrier presence alongside United Nigeria Airlines' service on the corridor, giving travellers in Nigeria's capital greater flexibility when planning trips to Ghana. Abuja remains one of Nigeria's busiest aviation centres, serving government officials, business travellers and international organisation staff, a passenger base that regional carriers have increasingly targeted with West African route expansions through 2026.
Part of a Broader Regional Push
The Ghana launches follow a broader pattern of Nigerian carriers expanding intra-African connectivity during 2026, including Air Peace's new Lagos-Conakry-Bamako route and United Nigeria Airlines' continued growth in the West African market. Industry watchers see the trend as evidence that Nigerian airlines are increasingly competing for regional traffic that has historically been captured by non-Nigerian carriers routing through hub airports outside the continent.
